Join us after school in The Newsroom!
Are you a curious and interested student that likes to learn, discuss and debate the latest topics in the news? Do you need an after-school club to add on your resume to make you sound more rad? Then The Newsroom! might be for you...read on...
The Newsroom! meets once a month, the last Thursday of every month.
How It Works...
WHAT: The Newsroom! will be a place for students to lead information sessions, discussions and informal debates on foreign and domestic news topics that interest them. Think "current events", but less structure, more opinions, and more critical thinking about the topics. This is all student led. YOU will decide at each meetup what topics to discuss based on what you want to talk about. (celebrity news is heavily shamed unless it's legit important to society in some way).
WHERE: We will meet once month on the last Thursday of each month, directly after school from 2:35 to 3:35 PM in room 2504, Ms. Thrower's room.
BRING: Students should bring a summary of a news story they want to discuss (foreign or domestic), a couple of thought provoking questions to pose to others for debate and discussion...(do you agree or disagree with some aspect of the story? why is this happening? what can we do to raise awareness, fix, change, etc?).
We will learn, discuss and debate as many topics as we have time for in the sessions.
WHY: So you'll be a more rad human, of course! Because it's better to be interested...than interesting. Oh and it's another thing you can put on a resume or college application that shows you are involved in life! So get some friends, get your opinions ready, and see you in the Newsroom!
