Final Exam Details: A Civic Engagment Project
For your final project in this course (20% of your overall grade), you will demonstrate their understanding of Civic Literacy principles through the completion of an actionable task within your local community. Or several! You should explore ways in which you can create change in your school, community, and your personal lives throughout the semester and then zero in on a final idea by the end of the first quarter. Your final experiences will be presented in a visual format, with video(s) and online blog, and on final exam day in class, a short presentation to the class about your favorite part of what you accomplished. The world is your oyster on what you want to do, but being civically engaged in the key. Start with your imagination...what issues are of concern to YOU? What are the root causes of these problems? How can you raise awareness and start making small changes? Most people don't realize, raising awareness IS civic engagment! So finding effective and clever ways to "spread the word" and educate others on something you're passionate about WILL qualify!
#butfirst...What is "civic engagement"?Frequently Asked Questions:Q: What's the due date?
A: Deadline to submit all verification forms to me, and send link through the Canvas Assignment for your final website will be posted at the end of the Spring Break. Q: Will there be checkpoints due? A: Yes! Check Canvas for these as they are posted. Your first one has already been posted, look for Milestone #1 posted on 1/21/25 in Canvas. Q: Where can I get ideas? A: Great ideas are found on DoSomething.org but also, inspiration can be found on "Teenagers in The Times". If none of these ideas float your boat...think about what interests YOU? What changes do you want to make in your community? And even more opportunities here at the Changemaker Project. The best place to get ideas...is your own brain! Q: How will I be graded? A: You will earn points for items completed during the semester (Milestones) but also for your final digital and oral presentation. A rubric will be posted in Canvas in the Class Lodestone folder along with the method to attach your digital website link later in the school year. Q: How do I submit my final project? A: Your format is required to be all online in one digital portfolio. For a high quality submission, you will need a blog of your experiences and reflections, videos of your work, some data about your topic, and anything else you think needs to be a part of your story. Keep reading this page for some samples. For most volunteering a student does, you will also need to submit a Verification Form on paper. Q: Can my project be partisan (meaning geared towards any of the political parties?) A: It absolutely can. If you believe in a political party and their goals and policies passionately, we want you to support efforts for that party. Seems like now is a great time to raise awareness about some major changes in our country, eh? |
